The website maintenance plans were created to help customers manage the Core, Theme, and Plugin updates and avoid the fear of running into site errors as a result. Shortly after the website care plan grew (due to popular request) to provide front-end support. Support like updating posts, adding new content, changing images, etc. But it wasn't until this when the true benefit of them shone through... Website Vulnerabilities.
Vulnerabilities are like leaving a window in your office unlocked. You may not notice daily it is unlocked, but eventually some mischievous individual will.
This exact thing happened to a client that I'd worked with previously, who sold gift vouchers online for their physical store. Because of a vulnerability some sneaky individual changed the PayPal account from the store owners to their personal one. Luckily I was alerted via SMS and Email from the site that PayPal credentials had been changed. I was able to secure the vulnerability before $$$ was lost from the business.
Since starting the website care plans almost 18 months ago, I have improved my process and testing tools and as a result I'm being notified of more vulnerabilities before it becomes an issue.
Prior to you signing up to one of the 3 care plans below, here is 5 simple ways of how you can improve site security:
- Ensure you have a valid SSL certificate and your site is only displaying the HTTPS:// version of your site.
- Change your password regularly & use complex passwords - NOT abc123
- Plan time to run weekly site updates of Core files, installed Themes, and Plugins.
- Run regular site and database backups. I usually run daily ones which are sent to an offsite server. That way if your server or site goes down, you don't risk losing your backups also.
- Lastly monitor site activity using a log, which can notify you, who made what change and at what time. If something looks a little sus, check it out.

At the start of each month, you will receive a website maintenance report outlining: Updates completed, analytics, vulnerabilities outstanding and resolved, page load speed performance recommendations, and also when the last backup was performed.
